Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) - GRE - Position W250
Graduated Reentry Unit


The salary listed for this position does not include the 5% premium pay for positions based in King County.

Department of Corrections offers free ORCA card to all employees who are permanently assigned work in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties.

The Community Corrections Division - Graduated Reentry Section 5 has permanent, full time Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) opening available. This position is located at the Seattle Community Justice Center (SCJC), Seattle, WA.

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work hours are determined by unit needs and are at the discretion of the unit supervisor. If you are currently working an alternate work schedule, please be aware that this position may not be able to honor that schedule. For questions, please contact the Human Resource Office.

Qualifications

In accordance with Article 4.7 of the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) 2025-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), this job opening is available to internal transfer candidates ONLY.

Employees who meet the following criteria may apply:

  • You are requesting a transfer under Article 4.7 of the WFSE CBA.
  • You are a permanent DOC employee.
  • You currently hold permanent status in the job class being recruited for in this job posting.
  • You are currently in a position represented by WFSE.
In addition to the above requirements for WFSE CBA Article 4.7 transfer requests, this position has the following requirements:

Four (4) years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.

OR

A bachelor’s degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education

AND

Three (3) years of professional case management - experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field which includes at least three (3) of the following:

  • Making field visits
  • Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents.
  • Assessing cases and making recommendations
  • Referring people to appropriate resources
  • Presenting cases in court or hearings.
  • Knowledge of electronic monitoring devices
  • Experience determining classification levels and/or requirements

OR

Equivalent combination of qualifying experience and education totaling seven (7) years.

AND

Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti-social behaviors; review graphic materials, ability to remain objective when dealing with individuals under supervision.

Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be willing and the ability to: possess and use a firearm under federal and state law; maintain firearm qualifications; and successful complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force.

Professional Standards - Knows and applies relevant law, policy, procedure, and practice. Adheres to productivity standards and timelines established by law and policy. Identifies own training needs and proactively seeks training opportunities.

Adaptability - Incorporates new information into an existing framework of understanding. Accepts change and supports the Agency through changes in law, policy, and procedure.

Integrity – Earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions.

Leadership – Promotes organizational mission and goals and demonstrates how to achieve them.

Problem solving – Rapid problem-solving ability. Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.

Communication – Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately when providing and receiving constructive feedback/criticism.

Initiative – Ability to work and accomplish goals independently; takes ownership and accountability for own performance.
